Vancouver’s Ricky Simon runs UFC win streak to five

Vancouver’s Ricky Simon earned his biggest win in the UFC on Saturday, submitting previously unbeaten Jack Shore to run his win streak to five.

Simon knocked down Shore with a right hook, then smothered the Welshman before finishing the fight with an arm-triangle choke three minutes, 28 seconds into the second round.

Simon, ranked No. 13 in the UFC’s bantamweight division, improved to 20-3 as a professional. He used his relentless pressure against the No. 14-ranked Shore, racking up more than four minutes of control time in a fight that lasted 8:28.

“Everything that we prepared for, what we thought he was going to bring, he brought,” Simon said in a televised interview after the fight on Long Island, New York.

After UFC on ABC 3 show, Simon was one of six fighters who picked up an extra $50,000 for their top performances.

Simon, a state wrestling champion at Union High School in 2010, has won three of his last four fights by knockout or submission. After the fight, he said he wants to face another rising star in No. 12-ranked Sean O’Malley.

“O’Malley, the Sugar show is over,” Simon emphatically said. “I’m the sweetest thing in this bantamweight division.”
